History & Significance

The first real cavalry engagement of the Civil War. Prince Rupert's cavalry scattered a Parliamentary force at Powick Bridge near Worcester. The victory established Rupert's reputation for dash and gave the Royalists psychological momentum before Edgehill. It also gave Cromwell cause to consider what professional cavalry training would mean.
