The Battle

History & Significance

Following the collapse of the Lincolnshire rising, the leading instigators including Dr John Mackarel and other clerical firebrands were arrested at Lincoln by royal agents. These arrests decapitated the Lincolnshire movement and sent a warning to the Yorkshire pilgrims. The prisoners were dispatched to London for examination; several were ultimately executed.
