History & Significance

The largest battle fought in Wales during the Civil War. A large Welsh Royalist force — many veterans who had fought for Parliament but switched sides in the Second Civil War — was destroyed by Horton's smaller but professional Parliamentary army. Eleven thousand Royalists were put to flight in under two hours. The battle ended serious Welsh resistance to Parliament.
