The Battle

History & Significance

The battle that decided the First Civil War. The New Model Army destroyed the last Royalist field army. Prince Rupert's cavalry swept the Parliamentary left but then went to plunder the baggage — while Cromwell's disciplined cavalry on the right won, then turned and destroyed the Royalist infantry. Charles I's captured correspondence revealed his secret negotiations with the Irish and France — destroying his credibility.
