History & Significance

Ceawlin and Cuthwine fought the British at Dyrham and killed three British kings: Coinmail, Condidan, and Farinmail. They captured Gloucester, Cirencester, and Bath. This was one of the most strategically decisive battles of the Saxon conquest, severing the land connection between the Welsh and the Britons of the southwest and opening the Severn valley to Saxon settlement.
