History & Significance

Following the death of his uncle Gwgon of Seisyllwg who drowned, Rhodri Mawr claims and secures the southwest Welsh kingdom of Seisyllwg through his wife Angharad, combining it with Gwynedd and later Powys to create the greatest early medieval Welsh dominion. Military enforcement of the succession drives out rival claimants.
