While the main rebel camp was at Mousehold Heath, Kett rebel bands controlled most of north Norfolk, enforcing rebel courts and pulling down enclosures from Norwich to the coast. Royal messengers and tax collectors were intercepted; gentry who resisted were imprisoned in the rebel camp.
