History & Significance

Julius Frontinus, before handing over to Agricola, also campaigned against remaining Ordovician resistance in north Wales. The Ordovices had been devastated by Paulinus in 58-59 AD but recovered sufficiently to ambush a Roman cavalry unit shortly before Agricola arrived (leading to Agricola's devastating reprisal). Frontinus's operations in this area, combined with his better-documented Silurian campaign, effectively ended organised tribal resistance in Wales.
