The Battle

History & Significance

After routing the Parliamentary right wing cavalry under Commissary General Henry Ireton, Prince Rupert led his cavalry in pursuit before attempting to return to the battle. When Rupert attempted to charge the Parliamentary baggage train at Naseby village, the baggage guard held them off. By the time Rupert returned to the main field, the Royalist infantry was already being overwhelmed by Cromwell's returning cavalry.
