Joyce Lewis of Mancetter was burned at Lichfield in 1557, one of the few Midlands martyrs outside the southeast and southwest. Her case illustrates how the Marian persecution extended into the English heartland and was not limited to London and the southeast. The Lichfield burning was recorded in Foxe and shaped the Protestant memory of the Marian years across the midland counties.
