The largest military action in the North Wales theatre of the Civil War. Sir William Vaughan assembled up to 3,000 Royalist cavalry — remnants of ten regiments, many poorly armed — at Denbigh Green to relieve Chester. Mytton attacked with 1,500 horse before Vaughan's infantry arrived, routing the cavalry in a hard-fought action. Over 100 Royalists were killed and 400 captured. The pursuit covered eight miles. Chester fell shortly after, and the systematic reduction of North Welsh castles began.
