The Battle

History & Significance

The English left wing at Falkirk under the Earl of Norfolk and the Earl Marshal attacked the Scottish right flank simultaneously with Lincoln's assault. The coordinated encirclement by both wings prevented any Scottish withdrawal and trapped the schiltrons. Norfolk's division also pressed the gap between the Scottish cavalry and the spearmen, accelerating the collapse of Scottish mounted support and leaving the schiltrons as isolated infantry blocks that the longbowmen then systematically destroyed.
