History & Significance

Woodstock Manor (on the site now occupied by Blenheim Palace) was used as a Royalist garrison and held until after Oxford itself had surrendered. Its fall in April 1646 contributed to the final isolation of Oxford. Parliament subsequently demolished much of the old manor house.
