The Battle

History & Significance

Following his seizure of York in 919, Ragnall continued to use Strathclyde as a base and raiding ground, weakening the Briton kingdom that would eventually be absorbed by Scotland. His actions in the period 914-920 fundamentally destabilised the political order of northern Britain and accelerated the collapse of independent Strathclyde.
