History & Significance

An English force carrying supplies to Enniskillen Fort was ambushed at a ford on the River Arney by Red Hugh O'Donnell and Cú Chonnacht Maguire. The English were routed and their provisions (biscuits and supplies) scattered across the ford — giving the battle its name. One of the opening engagements of the Nine Years War.
