History & Significance

The MacGregors' precarious situation — squeezed between Campbell, Graham, and Murray lands — forced them into constant cattle raiding for survival. This engagement represents one of many MacGregor-Campbell conflicts that eventually led to the proscription of the MacGregor name in 1603. The MacGregors were skilled raiders and fighters but could not resist the legal and military power of the Campbells indefinitely.
