History & Significance

As David Leslie marched the Scottish army south toward Worcester in August 1651 Lambert cavalry pressed their rear at every crossing; Warrington Bridge over the Mersey was contested before the Scots gave it up and continued south; the pressure contributed to the exhaustion of the Scottish army that reached Worcester already weakened.
