The Battle

History & Significance

A skirmish at the Bridge of Dee south of Aberdeen in June 1639 between a royalist Gordon force holding the bridge and Montrose's Covenanting army. The Gordons had artillery and initially resisted the Covenanting crossing. Montrose eventually forced the passage after several hours of fighting, completing Covenanting control of the northeast.
