The Battle

History & Significance

The Earl of Angus lured an English raiding force into a trap during Henry VIII's brutal "Rough Wooing" of Scotland. Sir Ralph Evers and Sir Brian Layton — who had boasted of killing 10,000 Scots — were both killed. Angus is said to have found Layton's body and remarked he had sold him those lands too dear.
