Mathgamain, elder brother of Brian Boru, used military force to seize the kingship of Munster from the traditional Éoganacht dynasty. This made him king of Cashel and set the stage for the Dal Cais dynasty's rise to dominate all Ireland. Brian Boru fought alongside his brother in these campaigns.
