History & Significance

Before the main Battle of Winceby on 11 October 1643, Parliamentary Eastern Association forces besieging Bolingbroke Castle clashed with the approaching Royalist relief force. The approach skirmish at Bolingbroke precipitated the main battle at Winceby as the Royalists advanced to relieve the castle and the Parliamentary cavalry moved out to intercept them.
