History & Significance

When Edward IV marched back into England in March 1471 from his Burgundian exile, Warwick refused to leave Coventry's walls to offer battle despite Edward's challenge. Warwick was waiting for Clarence and Somerset to join him, but Edward marched around him and headed south to London, outmanoeuvring the Readeption government.
