History & Significance

The Earl of Lennox and Lord Lyle led the principal armed opposition to James IV in 1489, operating in the west of Scotland and Renfrewshire. James IV moved against them and Lennox was killed in the fighting near Talla Moss — one of the few rebels actually killed in battle. The suppression of the Lennox revolt consolidated James IV's hold on the west and demonstrated he would not tolerate baronial opposition.
