The Battle

History & Significance

After Cade occupied London and executed the Lord Treasurer, the city's citizens turned against the rebels. An all-night battle on London Bridge followed, with Londoners defending the drawbridge and rebels attacking from Southwark. Cannon were used from the bridge towers. The Archbishops negotiated an amnesty — pardons were granted, Cade withdrew, then was declared a traitor. He was mortally wounded fleeing and died before reaching London for trial.
