The Battle

History & Significance

The rising that became Ketts Rebellion began at Wymondham fair in early July 1549 but quickly drew in men from the surrounding area including Attleborough, whose commons had their own enclosure grievances. The Attleborough muster fed directly into the growing host that marched toward Norwich under Robert Kett. The mid-Norfolk commons rising was driven by anger at enclosures of common pasture and the new prayer book.
