The Battle

History & Significance

Following the decisive Parliamentary victory at Naseby, Parliamentary cavalry pursued the routed Royalist army south toward Market Harborough. During the pursuit Parliamentary soldiers massacred women following the Royalist baggage train, whom they identified as Irish camp followers. The episode was subsequently used as propaganda by both sides.
