The Battle

History & Significance

The Battle of Tettenhall in 910 destroyed the armies of the Five Boroughs but left the kingdom of Jorvik untouched. The following years saw Jorvik actively competing with Edward the Elder and Aethelflaed for control of the Midlands Danelaw. Yorkshire served as the base for Danish counter-offensives. The survival of Jorvik as an independent Viking kingdom for another four decades was directly attributable to its military strength in the north.

Forces Involved

Jorvik Danes c.2,000–4,000 (untouched by Tettenhall).
