The Battle

History & Significance

The Lostwithiel campaign in August-September 1644 saw Charles I trap the army of the Earl of Essex in the Fowey peninsula. Parliamentary cavalry escaped but the infantry surrendered, with around 6,000 men losing all their weapons and artillery.
