The Battle

History & Significance

Ragnall, a Viking king from Dublin, fought at Corbridge against the Scots and Northumbrian English. The first battle at Corbridge was inconclusive. Norse-Irish Vikings were attempting to establish themselves in Northumbria as a land route between their Irish Sea holdings and Scandinavian York, threatening to create a Norse arc across northern Britain.
