Adam Gordon of Auchindoun led Gordon forces to victory over Regent Moray-aligned troops near Aberdeen during the civil war following the deposition of Mary Queen of Scots. The victory was followed by Gordon occupation of Aberdeen. Adam Gordon was a brilliant tactician and this battle showed the Gordons were a match for professional government forces.
