History & Significance

The Anglian takeover of the former Roman colonia of Lincoln, capital of the Lindsey region, ended sub-Roman British continuity in Lincolnshire. Archaeological evidence shows a transition from Romano-British to Anglian occupation in the sixth century. The Lindsey kingdom that resulted was one of the smaller Anglian kingdoms repeatedly contested between Northumbria and Mercia.
