History & Significance

Mold in Flintshire was within the strongly Royalist territory of north-east Wales. The area provided men and money for the Royalist cause throughout the war. Parliamentary forces made periodic raids into Flintshire from their bases in Cheshire but could not establish a permanent presence until the broader collapse of Royalist power in 1646.
