History & Significance

The second wave of revolt led by Sir Francis Bigod in January 1537 revived the pilgrim movement. A muster at Beverley brought fresh East Riding men into the field, though in far smaller numbers than the autumn rising. The assembly was quickly dispersed as royal forces advanced.
