The Battle

History & Significance

Having cleared the south of raiders, Theodosius moved north to reconstitute the Wall garrison. He expelled the last Pictish and Scottish war bands that had penetrated deep into the province, rebuilt the damaged forts from Carlisle to Wallsend, and re-established the outpost fort network north of the Wall at Risingham, High Rochester, and Bewcastle. He also dissolved and reconstituted the Areani who had betrayed the Wall in 367 AD.
