The Battle

History & Significance

After Edington and his baptism, Guthrum settled East Anglia with his army in 880 and divided the land among the Danish warriors. He ruled as King Aethelstan of East Anglia until 890. The settlement was relatively peaceful and East Anglia recovered economically; the Danelaw of East Anglia had a distinct character from the more turbulent north.
