History & Significance

The Parliamentary garrison at Pembroke conducted offensive sorties northward into Pembrokeshire in 1644 to extend the enclave and disrupt Royalist communications. Several minor engagements resulted in Parliamentary control being extended to Narberth and Haverfordwest before Royalist counter-moves restored the position. The enclave remained the only secure Parliamentary foothold in Wales outside the immediate border zone.
