History & Significance

During the confused period between the execution of Charles I in 1649 and the Cromwellian conquest of Scotland, clan conflicts re-emerged as central government collapsed. Gordon raiding parties from Strathbogie pushed into Strathspey MacKintosh territory. The MacKintoshes repelled them with armed force in one of the last significant inter-clan military confrontations before Cromwellian pacification imposed order on the Highlands.
