The Battle

History & Significance

On 13 November 1642 the Royalist army advancing on London faced the assembled Parliamentary forces and London trained bands at Turnham Green. Outnumbered approximately two to one by approximately 24,000 Parliamentary men, Charles I chose not to attack and withdrew westward after a day-long standoff. The encounter ended the Royalist chance for a quick victory in 1642.
