History & Significance

The Battle of Coire na Creiche (the Corrie of the Spoil) in the Cuillins was the last major clan battle in Skye. The MacDonalds decisively defeated the MacLeods and drove them from the corrie with heavy losses. James VI used the battle as justification for another royal intervention in the Hebrides. The two clans made peace shortly afterwards under government pressure.
