History & Significance

Prince Rupert led a cavalry force against Aylesbury in November 1642, shortly after Edgehill, hoping to seize the county town of Buckinghamshire and outflank the Parliamentary position around London. The garrison repulsed his attack and Rupert withdrew. The failure helped stabilise the Parliamentary front east of Oxford.
