The Battle

History & Significance

Magnus Maximus achieved a significant victory against the Picts and Scots that gave him the military prestige to be proclaimed emperor by the British army. Welsh tradition (in which he appears as Macsen Wledig) preserves memory of this campaign. His victory allowed him to strip troops from Britain for his continental campaigns, accelerating the military decline of Roman Britain.

Forces Involved

British garrison troops, probably including remaining Wall garrison units
