The Submission of the Clergy in May 1532 was the constitutional turning point of the English Reformation. Convocation surrendered its legislative independence to Henry VIII in the face of parliamentary and royal pressure. More resigned in protest the next day. The submission made the king Supreme Head of the Church and laid the legal foundation for the dissolution of the monasteries and the entire Reformation programme.
