The Battle

History & Significance

Ragnall grandson of Ivar established himself in Galloway and Strathclyde territory in 914 as part of the Norse reassertion across northern Britain following the expulsion from Dublin. His forces raided widely in southwest Scotland and he fought the Scots at Corbridge in 918 before taking York. Ragnall created a temporary Norse power bridging Ireland, Galloway and Northumbria.
