The Battle

History & Significance

Frontinus arrived with a clear mandate: finish the Silurian war that had dragged on for 27 years. In his first season he drove columns into the Glamorgan uplands, establishing a forward base at Isca Silurum (Caerleon) and cutting the Silurian supply network by systematically destroying upland farmsteads and cattle herds. Tacitus records that Frontinus overcame not just the enemy but the very landscape.

Forces Involved

Legio II Augusta from its new base at Isca Silurum with multiple auxiliary cohorts
