The Battle

History & Significance

The Earl of Warwick (later Northumberland) arrived at Norwich with a substantial royal force including foreign mercenaries and retook the city from Kett on 23 August 1549. Warwick's initial assault broke rebel hold on the city streets and drove them back up toward Mousehold Heath. This action at Norwich preceded the decisive confrontation at Dussindale and ended the rebel occupation of the city.
