The Battle

History & Significance

At Brentford on 12 November 1642, Prince Rupert stormed the town defended by Colonel Denzil Holles regiment and Brooke regiment. Holles musketeers fought a desperate street-by-street defence through the town, with fighting in the narrow lanes and over the bridges of the Brent, before being overwhelmed. Many survivors were driven into the Thames and drowned.
