History & Significance

During the Second Civil War, a Royalist rising in Caernarfonshire seized control of the town and threatened the castle garrison. Parliamentary forces from the existing north Wales garrisons were despatched to suppress the rising. After a brief confrontation, the Royalist local leaders submitted and the town was restored to Parliamentary control without major fighting.
