While Madog ap Llywelyn led the great revolt of 1294-95 in the north, Morgan ap Maredudd led a corresponding rising in south-east Wales (Gwent). Morgan was lord of Gwynllwg and resented Edward I's displacement of Welsh lords. His revolt was suppressed by Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester, but Morgan was ultimately pardoned. The revolt shows that resistance to Edward's settlement was nationwide, not just northern. Location is estimated in Morgan's lordship of Gwynllwg (Wentloog).
