The Battle

History & Significance

Egbert of Wessex harried Cornwall from east to west in 815, continuing the systematic West Saxon reduction of the last independent British kingdom in England. The campaign forced the Cornish into a vassal relationship but did not end their resistance, as they allied with the Danes in 838 at Hingston Down.
