History & Significance

Kenneth Mòr MacKenzie orchestrated the final destruction of the MacLeod chiefs of Lewis through a combination of legal action and military force. After repeated legal writs failed to dislodge them, military action was used to enforce the decisions. The MacLeods were finally expelled and replaced by MacKenzies — the island of Lewis changing hands permanently.
